This 1955 recording of Jascha Heifetz was one of many that captured the great violinist on Beethoven's Concerto in D. Compared to many of the poor-quality symphonic recordings of the early and mid-'50s, this version with the Boston Symphony under Charles Munch sounds fantastic. As with his other versions, Heifetz's fluidity is ever-present, even if the playfulness of the lyrical third movement is better elsewhere.
