Iyaz (born Keidran Jones) leapt to the top of U.K. and U.S. charts in 2009 with his presciently named hit single "Replay." Jones grew up in the British Virgin Islands, son of a touring singer and a church choir director. Though he first exercised his pipes in front of a congregation, his aspirations turned toward pop music, and he studied sound engineering in college, which helped when he self-produced his first single "Island Girls." The song was a local hit, and posted on his MySpace page, it brought Iyaz to the attention of none other than Sean Paul, who emailed Jones repeatedly before Jones truly believed the singer was contacting him. Paul passed Jones onto songwriter and producer J.R. Rotem (Britney Spears, 50 Cent), who produced the singer's 2010 debut, which mingles R&B and pop with just a hint of island sunshine.
