About Gota

An accomplished drummer with impressive credentials, Gota Yashiki is also a multifaceted producer and composer. He learned how to play (traditional Japanese) drums from his father in Kyoto, Japan, and as an adult went on to drum and sing in reggae-influenced bands like Rude Flower, Mute Beat and Melon. Collaborations with dance acts such as Soul II Soul – Yashiki played drums and bass on "Back to Life" – led to work with more mainstream artists, including Sinead O'Connor, Simply Red, Seal and Björk. As a solo artist, Yashiki gets much respect for his rich, contemporary jazz style.
