Former power metallers Edguy move further away from their foundation to offer a classic hard rock record that could have easily come out in 1989 instead of 2009. With powerful vox, raunchy guitars and big choruses, Edguy have produced an album that Don Dokken would be proud to call his own. The chugging verses and wailing solos of tracks like "Sex Fire Religion" and "Dead or Rock" are straight-up '80s glam metal, and, gulp, there's even a monster ballad ("Thorn Without a Rose"). Plus, triumphant tracks "Ministry of Saints" and "Nine Lives" deserve montages.
