Released:
Label: Earache Records Ltd
Sweden's acclaimed sludge masters intensify their gloomy post-metal doom on this fifth full-length. Taking torturous themes from a diary found in an abandoned mental hospital, the eerie antics and thick, cyclical riffing make the title track and pained epic "Ghost Trail" more emotionally tangible. This eight-piece stylistic melting pot brings unconventional sounds ("Mire Deep") and instruments ("The Lure") into the mix. Though the album begins forcefully, it wanes somewhere in the hypnotic middle, offering slow-burning, time-ticking tempos that drone on till the triumphantly cathartic end.
