Where Big Kenny spent 2013 plotting his move into electro, Cowboy Troy's first release in seven years posits hick-hop as more than a riff on contemporary country music, moving his sound further from Nashville with the type of music -- dubstep wobbles on "Buzzed Up" -- and references -- "Giddy Up," the song from the Wal-Mart commercials -- so gauche that even Music City isn't touching them. At the same time, this EP relocates the sub-genre from the mud back to the club, peaking with "Rope It Off," a track that refits line-dancing for rap music club nights -- or possibly vice versa.
