Released:
Label: Dine Alone Music Inc.
On his fifth album with City And Colour, hardcore veteran Dallas Green’s patient, melancholy songs fill out and deepen with the help of a slim, tight band. The new album's nine-minute opener, "Woman," builds to a bluesy storm; it's almost prog but for its simplicity and focus. But it's not too different from the vocals-guitar-piano tracks on C+C debut _Sometimes_--it's just got a bigger platform. Other songs are more modest--"Mizzy C" and "Killing Time" are loping, stiffly funky ballads; single "Wasted Love" builds the album's catchiest three minutes around a shimmying five-note lick.
