About Cali Swag District

Cali Swag District are part of L.A.'s jerkin' movement, a hybrid of imported Southern swag, Bay Area hyphy, skater culture and underground dance styles. The quartet includes Yung, Smoove Da General, JayAre and M-Bone. They formed at Morningside High School in Inglewood, Calif., and their shows at various high schools and import car shows around the Los Angeles area got them noticed by Checkmate Music Group. A subsequent first single, "Teach Me How to Dougie," riffed on a popular dance in Texas and was successful enough to earn Cali Swag District a deal with Capitol Records. With "Teach Me How to Dougie" hitting the national singles charts, the group scheduled a debut album for 2011, The Kickback. Sadly, M-Bone was killed in a drive-by shooting that May.
