Remember when Ani D was just a shaved-headed gal banging the crap out of an acoustic guitar? Well, so does Bitch. Her fiddling is a bit more polished than it was in her former duo, Bitch and Animal (she also seems to have lost some of her wicked sense of humor since then). But she still has the ultra-D.I.Y. acoustic instrumentation (see the kiddie piano in the title track) going on, and her voice is sweetly ragged, dipping and diving into her conversational lyrics with a folksy emotionalism. Geez, are they running a Motown-esque finishing factory over at Righteous Babe Records or what?
