German producer Jorg Burger specializes in smooth, minimal techno that jettisons all traces of aggressiveness for a streamlined (and dare we say modern?) sound that owes as much to classic Krautrock as it does to the Detroit blueprint. Clean, repetitive beats chug away like a finely tuned engine upon which stark melodic sketches are crafted as carefully as a Swiss watch. It's all very precise, but also warm and inviting, with just the right amount of '80s pop sparkle. Burger has recorded under the aliases the Bionaut, the Modernist, Triola and (alongside Kompakt cofounder Wolfgang Voigt, aka Mike Ink) Burger/Ink, but don't worry about parsing the differences too carefully. His lush, spongy style carries across all his identities.
