About Andy Stochansky
The marriage of folk singing and deep percussion has been done many times before, but rarely with as much lopsided charm as by Andy Stochansky. His tenor voice croons and soars above a boiling sea of oil drums, cowbells, shakers, and even a cookie sheet. A deep, slithering bassline insinuates itself into the mix, followed by itchy stabs of guitar crunch and droning electric slide. Over this heady sonic gumbo, he drops his abstract, meandering stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Stochansky has performed or recorded with such folkie luminaries as Ani DiFranco, Jane Siberry, and the Indigo Girls, and sat in with Boston Straight-Edge guru and Modern Lover Jonathan Richman.
