Label: Cumbancha
This remarkable release has been hailed as the apex of the Garifuna revival, and with good reason. Palacio has spent his career championing the indigenous music of the Garifuna people, whose heritage (and language) springs from Arawak, Carib and West African roots. But here Palacio put Garifuna musicians from throughout the Caribbean in a house on a Belize beach, where they developed and recorded these tracks over the course of four months. The result? You can practically feel the hot sand and ocean breezes in each track: if any music can be both languid and passionate, this is it.
