Amaury Gutierrez is adept at turning out the kind of romantic ritmo-pop performed by Latin stars like Alejandro Sanz and Luis Fonsi, for whom Gutierrez penned the hit "Nada es Para Siempre." But this skill proves to be a blessing and curse. The opening of Pedazos de Mi, a funky fusion of Cuban trova and pop, sounds promising, but the album quickly turns to the overblown Latin rhythms and romantic crooning heard on mainstream Latin radio. Pedazos de Mi offers competent tracks, but this commercially appealing production too often seems to obscure the heart and soul of a gifted singer/songwriter.
