About Alice Gomez

Latina educator and multi-instrumentalist Alice Gomez grew up in San Antonio, Tex., playing drums in her father's dance band. The experience sharpened her musically, but her path has been very different from her father's: rather than crafting dance music, Gomez's New Age leanings have led her to explore softer sounds, including Native American flute. Several commissions and residencies -- as well as a gig teaching at San Antonio Community College -- have made her a community fixture as well as a leading light of contemporary indigenous music.
