Label: 311 Records, LLC
Though 311's trademark funk and skank still are detectable, they've been nipped and tucked to fit the compositions, which this time around reflect the group's newfound obsessions with crunchy riffage and synth-gurgle. Actually, the synth-gurgle also appeared on 2011's Universal Pulse, but it plays a far more central role on Stereolithic (311's first independently released album since 1991). Something else that's been altered are the vocals. "Five of Everything," "Existential Hero" and "Made in the Shade" all find the band experimenting with a novel mix of layered harmonies and choppy rapping.
