Shakira Survival Guide
by Rachel Devitt | March 25, 2014
Shakira's been wowing us with her belly-dance moves, her throaty vocals, her way around a slice of dramatic dance pop and her ability to jump boundaries (be they genre, geopolitical or linguistic) since she burst onto the American charts with the tango-dancing, ojos-gazing, cumbia-meets-spaghetti-western-meets-Middle-Eastern-pop-fueled hit machine [Laundry Service] in 2001. And of course, she'd already been wowing most of Latin America with the Spanish-only albums that preceded that. Along the way, she married a famous soccer player, had an adorable baby, recorded a FIFA World Cup song-turned-major hit, became a judge on The Voice and generally impressed us all with her gorgeous, talented self. Now, she's back with a 10th album that takes off in some surprising new directions (ska? country?!) and is, therefore, as an act of reinvention, appropriately self-titled. In celebration, we put together this little guide to all things Shakira, from a spotlight on her greatest hits to a playlist of great Latin pop duets (including hers with Rihanna) to a musical tour of her mother country, Colombia. Check it -- and Shakira. -- out now!
