The conclusion to this Studio Rock series couldn't come at a better time: Everybody has something to say about that Daft Punk album and how it re-creates the recording craft of a bygone era. But as much as it recaptures the old-school techniques of super-skilled session players, songwriters and producers, Random Access Memories, as its title suggests, couldn't have been made without the infinite possibilities computers have brought to modern music making. Even the humblest hard drive now has the capacity for more tracks than the most monstrous recording decks of yore. The final playlist in this series -- at least until the closing of the current decade -- samples several of the knockout productions of the last few years. Some do it with keys and synths, others with strings and guitars, but all of them revel in the sonic glory of hi-fi multitracking. Surrender to the sweet excess.
