Released:
Label: Don Giovanni Records
Alternate band name: Alabama Mopes. Born of Birmingham's fertile indie-rock scene (!), Waxahatchee is the solo alias of young songwriter and transplanted Brooklynite Katie Crutchfield, who writes raw, sweet, gently feral fuzz-pop odes to loneliness and listlessness, mixing the well-read pillow talk of Rilo Kiley with the bass-driven bounce of The Breeders, all seeded with bummer-IM-away-message-worthy lines like "Won't you just let me pretend this is the love I need?" It's all catchy as hell and surprisingly rousing, a disarming smile slowly turning upside-down.
