A far cry from the hazy-vivid electronic pop of his 2011 album Underneath The Pine, one of chillwave's most self-assured and successful artifacts, this collection of Chaz Bundick's early work finds the college-aged musician still finding his way into the hypnagogic slipstream. The lo-fi home recordings hew to a lineage stretching back to Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr.; his guitar-heavy jams skew more Velvet Underground than sun-kissed psych-pop. But you can hear a pre-echo of his later work in the soft, lysergic warble that permeates the music's pores.
