The post-punk revival of the early 21st century has had a longer shelf life than most indie fads. It's amazing. As with the Rapture and Franz Ferdinand, the well-cooked descriptors "angular" and "jagged" are exactly what These New Pyramids are all about. That said, the U.K. outfit reveals a real progressive streak on its debut album, Beat Pyramid. Funky jammers like "Swords of Truth" and "En Papier" are shot through with the kind of dubbed-out industrial grime that Liars experiment with.
