Released:
Label: Rough Trade
After the modest success of Nux Vomica, Finn Andrews could've easily gone for the gold and churned out a collection of laid-back piano rock. Though Sun Gangs does contain some mellow modern tunes ("The House She Lived In" is pure chamber pop), the album also boasts a clutch of moody soundscapes into which Andrews has dumped all his myriad anxieties, doubts and insecurities. The best is "Larkspur," an eight-minute epic ending in a maelstrom of shuddering guitars, feedback and reverb-soaked moans.
