Released:
Label: Capitol Records
Though still rooted in the conventions of AM radio in the mid '60s, Hour Glass' second album was certainly more reflective of the gritty Southern blues they liked to unleash during live performances. Because of this, the record makes for fairly uneven listening. Minor hit "Power of Love" is blue-eyed fluff that sounds more like Gary Puckett & The Union Gap than it does Joe South. Meanwhile, "Down in Texas" and "Home for the Summer" -- both of which are notable for having been co-written by friend and Muscle Shoals legend icon Eddie Hinton -- are totally earthy in a proto-Allmans kind of way.
