Released:
Label: Broken Rekids
Released posthumously after frontwoman Mia Zappata's murder, the Gits' second album is more homage to a scene, an era and the dark, dirty, unwaveringly DIY punk band that helped shape it, than a proper sophomore effort. Its holes filled in with covers, live material and outtakes, Chicken recreates the rowdy camaraderie of a Gits show and the hardass-with-a-heart-of-gold energy of its singer, whose ballsy, bluesy, six-sheets-to-the-wind vocals sound as rich and vibrant on Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" as they do on a solo acoustic version of the Gits original "Social Love."
