A lot of country music from the early '90s hasn't aged too well. Production values back then leaned hard on cold chorus effects and Pro Tools software was kind of new, so many producers' skills on the computer were weak at best. Suzy Bogguss' 1992 long player is no exception, but her mothering voice and moving lyrics more than make up for it, especially with songs like "In the Day," a tragic dipsomaniac's love song that pulls heavier on the heartstrings than the banjo strings. Her cover of Lowell George's weepy "Heartache" is a standout.
