Since their 2010 debut, Wild Smile, this Brooklyn band has not only slimmed down to a trio, they've also apparently mellowed some. That doesn't mean they're any less interesting on follow-up Candy Salad, but it is a more streamlined affair that incorporates mean guitar licks, tense beats, multipart harmonies and glistening electronic effects, all seemingly turned to "lite mode." Throughout, they move from Bowie ("Figure It Out") to MGMT ("Chinese Braille") to bouncy surf pop ("Turn on the Sunshine") to woozy stoner rock ("Bricks to the Bones") with an effortless flow and a laid-back vibe.
