By 1964, Q was a record industry executive and had just started writing influential film scores in Hollywood. How he still found time to cut his own record dates is anybody's guess, but it may explain why this is such an odd mix of Lounge music, bop and hot boogaloo (cuts like "The Sidewinder" and a Beatles' cover were obviously aimed at the juke joint market). Instead of lambasting Q for easing off on the jazz, he should be commended for bringing so much soul sizzle to the often white bread world of 1960s easy listening music.
