No Richie Furay. No Jim Messina. No problem. Poco not only weathered the departure of its founders, the hard-luck band finally found a way to thrive as a commercial entity. Of course, it entailed a shift in aesthetic. The ambitious country rock/Southern soul fusion of Furay and Messina gave way to breezy pop. This means Head Over Heels isn't nearly as sweeping as, say, 1973's Crazy Eyes, but it doesn't have to be. This is clearly an attempt to crank out catchy highway music.
