Released:
Label: Geffen
Not a live album, but largely recorded live over the course of two nights in 1986, Life is Neil Young's 16th release, and his first with Crazy Horse since 1981's Re-ac-tor. With a strong emphasis on politics and the inexplicable presence of the '80s drum sound (tin-on-tin), the joys of the record may lie in just listening to Neil and Frank Sampedro play guitar. While the synth-tastic "Around the World" reaches unheard of levels of weirdness, the rhythmic chunk of Crazy Horse is welcomed back with "Inca Queen." "Prisoners of Rock N Roll" is every bit as low budget as the title suggests.
