Released:
Label: Columbia/Legacy
Along with its predecessor Miles in the Sky, Filles de Kilimanjaro documents Davis' initial forays into fusion. The album is not a unified vision a la In a Silent Way (there's still a lot of post-bop tricks), but cuts like "Frelon Brun" and the moody title track point to the hypnotic, open-ended jams Davis would produce in the early '70s. The pioneering work of drummer Tony Williams should be noted simply because the guy played like a beast with a genius IQ. Herbie Hancock ain't bad either.
