Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley were major players in the neotraditional bluegrass movement of the 1980s. Their roots, however, ultimately lie in the string-band sounds of Appalachia. Had the Everly Brothers made a straight-up bluegrass album, it would've sounded a lot like Second Generation Bluegrass, a killer collection of recordings from 1971, back when these two were just teenagers. Though Skaggs and Whitley would reach far greater heights commercially, this album is worth a listen for the harmonies alone.
