Released:
Label: Old Guitar Records
Jason Eady's sixth effort is loosely based around alcohol -- specifically how the resolve to stay sober can so easily slip. The album is bookended with uptempo numbers -- the very fine "OK Whiskey" and "A Memory Now" -- but most songs are slow and shuffling, and made even sadder with the weeping notes of a pedal steel guitar or the strain of a sorrowful fiddle. Gems like "Temptation," "One, Two…Many" and "Whiskey & You" could contend with anything from George Jones. Eady's old-school honky-tonk is at once familiar and refreshing -- and like its whiskey muse, it leaves an enticing burn.
