Label: Classic Music Vault
Released in 1971, Tigers Will Survive is obscure even according to Iain Matthews' standards. Yet it's another excellent fusion of British folk and West Coast rural-rock, something the criminally underrated Matthews was a master of back then. Although the covers rule -- like Peter Lewis' "Right Before My Eyes" -- Matthews' hit-or-miss songwriting is in peak form. The hippie-country ballads "Hope You Know" and "Morning Song" are dreamy and rustic but well crafted -- like only a Brit could pull off.
