Sugar by G. Love & Special Sauce

Album

Released:
Label: Brushfire Records/Universal
Sugar, G. Love and Special Sauce's first full-length in five years, finds them reviving the shambolic blues-funk that made them pop darlings in the '90s. In addition to a solid set of tunes (lead single "Nothing Else Quite Like Home" certainly will tickle the eardrums of longtime fans), the album benefits from the itchy swing generated by bassist Jim Prescott and drummer Jeffrey Clemens, both of whom sound refreshed and locked-in. Two welcome surprises are the retro-soul numbers "Weekend Dance #2" and "One Night Romance," the latter featuring a cool cameo from legendary singer Merry Clayton.
