This won't be the comeback album Donna Summer's seeking, but Crayons renews a nagging open question: Why do we put our great singers on a shelf? Summer has too much heart and guts to be sliding into her dotage without a few more decent albums under her belt. The acoustic, adult alternative "Sand on My Feet" might point a way forward -- give the lightstick-waving rave anthems a rest and let the lady tell a story. Not that she can't still hold her own over a dance beat, as "I'm A Fire" proves. There's just a lot more to her, and we'd like to hear it.
