Released:
Label: Timeless Records
This instrumental set from 1983 is far from Chet Baker's best outing of the period, yet even when he wasn't performing at 100%, the trumpeter somehow remained a compelling musician. Baker's tone on the title track is muscular, and he plays with plenty of verve. He sounds tired (or stoned) and somewhat sloppy on Wayne Shorter's "Dolphin Dance," but the performance still works. Top marks go to Horace Silver's "Strollin'" and an energized walk through Brubeck's "In Your Own Sweet Way." Michel Graillier plays piano and wrote a few of the numbers.
