John Popper seems like a pretty wild dude: weapons collector, marijuana enthusiast, Ron Paul supporter. Yet he rarely allows that delicious zaniness to infect his band’s music. Once again, Blues Traveler turn in a professionally constructed collection of pop-tinged rock: very competent, a little jammy, but not very bluesy (oddly enough). Some tunes are better than others, yet even the group’s die-hard fans have to admit they sound their liveliest on “I Don’t Wanna Go,” which features American Idol singer Crystal Bowersox -- she’s a vocal powerhouse who forces the group to bring their A-game.
