About Bird York
Cut from the same stylistic cloth as Sarah McLachlan, Bird York is a singer geared for the adult alternative market. Her vocal phrasing is characterized by a slight accent and a distinctive manner of pronouncing certain words, allowing her to occupy similar idiosyncratic vocal territory as Jewel and Natalie Merchant. Since 1999, she has released three albums full of electronic beats, dreamy New Age synthesizers and tempos set at a decidedly easy rate exuding an almost supernatural calm. In 2005, she was nominated for an Oscar for "In the Deep," featured in the Oscar-winning film Crash.
