It's hard to think of a worse artistic match then misanthropic film director Todd Solondz and humanistic indie rockers Belle & Sebastian. Nevertheless, Solondz hired B&S to score his movie Storytelling, although not much of their work ended up in the finished film. It's just as well, since few saw it and this mainly instrumental, easy listening set plays well on its own. There are only a couple of real songs here, but "Big John Shaft" ranks up there with the band's best tunes. "Wandering Alone," "Scooby Driver," and "Black and White Unite" all deserve to be heard.
