Babasonicos's gently bifurcated 2008 album loads the first half with the dreamy, shuffling, slightly antique pop that has made them darlings of the Latin alt scene. It reserves all its surprises for the second half, when we get electro-pop ("Microdancing"), punk sturm ("Estoy Rabioso"), space-rock leanings ("Nosotros") and the country-esque "El Idolo." Throughout it all, Adrian Dargelos's anemic vocals keep even the experiments sounding cool and collected, as if he's sipping a gin and tonic in '60s London surrounded by Twiggy look-alikes. Oh -- and there's not a stinker in the bunch.
