Released:
Label: Tooth & Nail Records
With strong echoes of Muse and Radiohead in nearly every cut, Anberlin's swan song is an extravagant foray into modern art rock. Soaked in moody echo and awash in all manner of electronic tones, the band strikes an odd balance of resignation and freedom, as if coming face to face with their own demise actually inspired them artistically. Lowborn does contain a cut or two that can be called "vintage Anberlin," like "Losing It All" and "Velvet Covered Brick." Ultimately, though, the best songs (like the ambient-tinged closer "Harbinger") are those that go all in with the art moves.
