Released:
Label: Strut
This one-off collaboration was recorded over an intensive five-day period in Kingston, Jamaica. The sessions' emphasis on freewheeling spontaneity is evident. Sly and Robbie's rhythm section forges a loose groove, building off wisps of organ swells, elastic bass lines and one-drop drums. Amp Fiddler provides his usual high-pitched nasally purr, offering to paint the White House black on the George Clinton redux "Black House," and wondering "how long we gonna last" on the environmentally minded "This World." Though nothing really sticks here, there is a casual exuberance that is appealing.
